Memorial Day Weekend Ride.

The "Wild Goats" got in some great ridin' over the Memorial Day Weekend, Alton, Bruiser, Mano and I made a fun run of about 450+ miles on Saturday and Sunday. Mano and I met at Alton's shop around 7:30 and headed up Hwy. 79 to meet Bruiser at Paris Landing and on to Cindy's Restaurant in Dover for breakfast. From Dover we rode down Hwy. 49 through Erin, and on to Charlotte. Highway 49 is a wonderful road with lots of curves that winds around the the edge of the Cumberland River and many small creeks for several miles. From Charlotte we got onto Hwy. 47 down to White Bluff and then after a few short miles up Hwy. 70 to McCrory Lane and entered the north head of Natchez Trace Parkway. Anyone that has never ridden the upper end of the N.T. Parkway has missed some great scenery and smooth winding roads.  All the rest of Saturday was spent on the Parkway, stopping for buttrests and scenic areas. We got off the Parkway onto Hwy. 241 and headed SE to Hwy. 64 and spent the night in Lawrenceburg. Total mileage for the day apr. 240

Sunday started out another beautiful day with warm weather and sunny skies. We left Lawrenceburg and headed East and got on Hwy. 166 North just outside of Pulaski up to Mt. Pleasant and onto Hwy. 412 for a few miles and then back on the N.T. Parkway North to Hwy. 50 and through Centerville. A few miles west of Centerville Hwy. 438 starts and you'd think you were coming off of Monteagle Mountain on old 41 for the first few miles, with all the hairpin turns and drops. Hwy. 438 goes through some pretty valleys and farmland for several miles with rolling hills and cold clear creeks. We come out on Hwy. 13 and turned north to Lobleville then left onto Crooked Creek Road over to Blue Creek Road north and crossed over I-40 at Cuba Landing and then right at the forks onto Sycamore Landing Rd.  This brought us out on Bakersville Road and then East to Paint Rock Bluff Rd. at the Duck River and from there to Box Hollow Rd to Hwy. 70 and then West to Camden where we split off with Bruiser and on to our homes. Total mileage for the day apr. 200

Anyone around West Tennessee interested in a great 2-day ride should follow the roads listed above, you'll see some great scenery, very little traffic and on average mostly very good road surface conditions especially on the highways, the only strip of rough blacktop is on Blue Creek Road and that is only for apr. 4 miles. Cost for a road trip such as this is VERY economical, average cost per person came to $120 for gas, food and lodging, where else can you have that much fun for c-note and change?

Until the next time, rubber side down and watch for the idiots with cellphones stuck to their head 'cause they sure ain't watching for you!
