July 7th Ride, Natchez Trace State Park,

just a quick trip around the block.

Too pretty a day to stay in, so Boop and I decided to make a short trip through the country. We left McLemoresville around 2pm and headed out Terry Road to Parkers Store Road then over to Hwy 70 S and turned on Hwy 424 over to Clarksburg, 424 makes a zig-zag in C'burg at Hwy 22 and then heads to Yuma. We picked up Hwy 114 a couple miles from Yuma and headed south through Natchez Trace State Park, 114 has lots of turns and beautiful scenery going into the north side of the park. Crossing I-40 we headed into the most familiar part of the park and on to the park's General Store for something cold. There were a couple of riders already there taking a break and we talked with them a while about the roads in the area, they were Michael and Matt Rushing from Scotts Hill. Several other bikes came through, probably more bikers out that day than motorists, guess the gas prices have most folks hanging home.

Boop and I then rode down to Cub Lake to watch the swimmers for a while and then it was time to work our way back to the homefront, we turned onto Wildersville Road just up from the park store and headed west to Parkers Crossroads, crossing Hwy 22 and onto Rock Springs Road to Union Cross Road, crossing I-40 and onto Palmer Road west to Hwy 104. This little road is well kept and has some great curves, as someone said "it's the Dragon's Tail of West Tennessee" well good riding but not quite up to comparison with 129 at Deal's Gap. Further up 104 we crossed Hwy 70 onto the Old Lavinia Road and then over to 220 for about a hundred yards and onto Warren's Store Road and through the 4-way onto Terry Road and home by 5:30 a total of 79.4 GPS miles. Download GPS Route.

Natchez Trace Park has lots of miles of good one and two-lane paved roads, so be careful and watch for the horses (and their emissions), pick up a map at the General Store and you'll find a full day of riding within the park boundary, its a beautiful area and well kept, be sure to have a full tank to start with, only one place to buy gas at the General Store or make a trip into one of the nearby small towns.

Until the next time, rubber side down and watch for the idiots with cellphones stuck to their head 'cause they sure ain't watching for you!
